Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, on Sunday, September 20, 2020, we begin the Novenas to St. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Traditionally, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael feast days fall on March 24 and October 24 respectfully but because the 1st Presidential debate falls on the feast of the Archangels, I feel like this is a vital turning point as we near election day. The desire to enter the fight is a desire to enter into a genuine training in holiness, pursuing the goal of becoming one of God’s champions. St. Paul put it this way: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize” (1 Cor 9:24-27).
